A few Days Late, A Buck Short
An Update Report
(Editor’s note: that is an awkward title and a forced reference. Oh wait! That’s me!)
A few weeks ago marked the one year anniversary of the idea of Correspondence Theory. As for the exact day, I cannot say. I can say that it was early June and that it seems like both yesterday and a lifetime ago.
Throughout the process of conceptualizing the idea, gathering a coterie of nerds, and doing the best possible to publish quality articles on a schedule, many lessons have been learned.
This is not a post about lessons or anything. It is a clip episode that outlines the story so far. Let’s go!!!!
Correspondence Theory was first conceived during a drive to eastern Alberta. A twitter mutual, who has became a friend, was asking for more attention for her work. That started the thinking.
You can read about it here:
That was just the start. The work was next.
So, I gathered a coterie of nerds. I DM’d a bunch of people in the researcher/philosophy/academic sphere of twitter. It was well received. And that seemed odd as my avatar is a hobbled together clip-art buttocks with accoutrements; some day I’ll explain that picture. Anyways, we had some meetings and some chats. I went on a couple podcasts…And we started posting last September.
This was published on the first day to explain the name. Why it was the same day as the last post is beyond me. *face palm*
The first real contributor post was from my friend Michael Belcher. I know “friend” is a tossed around term these days, but I had messaged Mike about a year before and had a good conversation on the phone with him. I think we connected instantly. And I appreciate that he gave me time enough to get to know him. He has contributed twice to this publication, has been a gem to work with, and that is some something, considering he is a busy dude trying to represent people in New Hampshire.
His articles are here:
Next up for an article was Clint. We had been mutuals on X for a while and he was one of the first I tried recruiting into my coterie of nerds. He said yes and we published his (in)famous article on TURDs. It is by far the most easily weaponized article. It is also one of the most deep and well thought out. He and his contributions and friendship are valued.

Part of the goal was to get Anon and pseudo Anon accounts more visible, especially if they have good takes. We published a couple of articles from ResistCBDC, a very popular account on X/Twitter. An important thinker and friend of both the project and my Ass.
Here you go:
We also posted this true account from an anon. It is haunting:
I wrote a few articles myself. This project was partially to get more practice butt I have learned that I am far better at curating in the written realm than creating. Most of my articles have just been update posts keeping our audience apprised of what is going on behind the scenes. We’ll ignore those. Here is my one “real” article. It is a review of the book The Queering of the American Child by Logan Lancing and James Lindsay.
Right around the same time this publication was being planned out I reached out to Jordan B. Goldstein for help with my physical training. It was for more than that, and I wasn’t in bad shape. I just needed someone to help keep me on a good path. Of course I asked for an article. Here it is:
He owes me a new one. It’s coming soon.
One of my twitter friends that I found during coof lockdowns wrote out an impassioned thread. Needing content, and being moved by his post, I asked if I could reformat his thread as an article. Billy said yes. And this diamond in the rough was published.
Maintaining a consistent schedule for posts was a lot. It was more than I could do, even with the network that had grown. I had to do some cross-posts to fill the gaps. This only happened a handful of times. They were still worthwhile articles. Here are all of them:
Tapping my network on X/Twitter again, I got ahold of a brilliant mutual. audiocoffee1 is the screne name and this analysis, and remedy for, postmodern deconstruction tactis is a must read. There are videos too. This is preparedness for the rhetorical battlefield we are immersed in.
Editing and publishing people who are way more erudite is quite the trip. Christine was/is very much the impetus of this whole project. Very few people do their homework. As far as I can see, Christine is doing a lot of research. If any monied thinktanks want to scoop her up, I’ll fight you. But you can take her. She deserves it.
She contributes more than just articles, butt articles are what you are getting. Here you go!
We also had the privelege of publishing a couple articles from The Kids Are Not Alright . She has great insite and I am excited to see what she will do in the future. If you want some analysis from the counselor point of view, she has it.
All that is about half of what this year has produced. And my Ass is Asstounded.
Typing this out, last minute and late-night, has made me realize that there is too much to cover for successes in one post. Substack has already informed me that this post is far “too long for email”, and that is ok.
I could love-letter my friends and collaborators more in this post. I won’t though. I’ll save that for next week.
Check the back catalogue. This post, and next week, are attempts to make sure the good works are less ephemeral than the usual content on the internet. There is a lot of heart and soul and though in everything we publish.
Cheers.
Jeff is the founder of Correspondence Theory. He posts on Twitter/X at unmitigatedAss. You can find his musings there.
Huge shout out to the people who participated in whatever the heck I have going on here. And an even huger shoutout because I had to make this two parts because there are so many of you.
