Quite a short run of worldwide "democracy", aka "the best system of government ever", with quite a uniform result. Next time - if there is a next time - people should probably consider concentrating more on WHO governs them than on the slapstick process of HOW they get there.
It's pretty much everywhere in the West. Take look at Germany or Britain: people always have a choice between open Reds and Reds cosplaying "Conservatives." Even the "new alternatives", like AfD in Germany or the Farage one-man-show in the UK are not clear as they have never held any power to speak of: Look at the Italian Meloni, for example, who went from pre-election "fascista" to post-election Ursula's best buddy practically overnight, or the long-forgotten Tsipras of Greece - sold the whole country down the river and still has enough votes to be a member of parilament.
And yeah, people just go and vote for those who are openly out to destroy them - makes those people feel important, I guess...

With much truth to what you write. I would like to say the country that you describe, Canada, you could interchange with most countries in Europe, The UK, even the United States in some ways fits this description.

A simple listing of issues and situations that Canada has struggled with does not an argument make. We don't need to throw in the towel because challenges lie ahead. This attitude is weak and defeatist and not how citizen can afford to think.

Our superficial engagement with our democratic processes has left us with no weapons or even tools at our disposal, here in Canada.
